Art Event at the Silver Fox Gallery

Here at the Silver Fox Gallery, we strive to help our customers be surrounded by beauty. Whether that is a simple piece of pottery, a beautiful hand crafted piece of a furniture, a multi colored hand tufted rug that helps ground your whole space, to of course the art on the wall. At the Silver Fox Gallery, you will notice how all of sections are surrounded by a piece of art work that is inspired by our mountain contemporary style. Being that art is something we focus on and love so much, we try to have art events once or twice a year so our customers can meet the artists and learn more about what makes the art truly beautiful.

On Friday May, 4th from 5-7 pm we will be hosting an art event with the two incredibly talented artists, Suzy Schultz and Stephen St. Claire. Both of these artists are so unique in their own way and have such a gift that we get to enjoy. All are welcome! We will be serving wine and cheese.

Suzy Schultz has little formal art training, but was exposed to art at an early age through her mother, who is a painter. She graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Mathematics Education and taught high school for 4 1/2 years. Taking a leave of absence, she spent a year overseas in Poland. On returning, she did some part-time graphic design work for a local mission’s agency, and was eventually hired to help with their publications. There she was mentored and nurtured in her artistic talent, and encouraged to paint for illustrations used in the magazine. When her mentor and boss left to go on the mission field six years later, she was told she needed to leave her job and paint full time, which she did. “There is a first innocence – a beauty that is young, unmarred, untested. There is a second innocence – one in which the beauty is a result of the scars borne from the battles of life. I am interested in this second innocence. I work the surface. I sand, layer, and scar, wanting to reproduce a piece that has a patina of age, and it is out of these surfaces that figures emerge. I seek figures, faces that seem to be familiar with the tensions of life. That bear some battle scars. And yet, have victory, even if a crippled or limping one.”

Stephen St. Claire was born and raised in the northern suburbs of Los Angeles, California, graduating from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Working with oil paint since he was a child, he has spent most of his adult life exploring different facets of art and design, winning numerous international awards for his work. “I grew up painting mostly landscapes and still life, but somewhere around 2001, I began experimenting with painting on metallic leaf, and a new painting genre was born. This technique is called Dialuminism (”light passing through”) and embeds metal leaf and oil paint within layers of solar protective resins. Light plays off some areas and casts shadows beneath others, creating a dimensional painting that changes in appearance depending upon where the viewer is standing in relation to the light source. That is why I named this technique Dialuminism "light coming through".

We can’t wait to see everyone and enjoy the beauty and presence of these artists!
