Interior Design Tips by Kayla

December, the ultimate season for indoor entertaining! Creating an inviting space through seasonal decor and furniture placement is the best way to prepare for holiday guests in the main living areas.

The dining room is the best place to wow your guests, and not just with food. Adding fresh foliage as a centerpiece gives you the opportunity to introduce a festive green base color in along with a wonderful seasonal aroma. Including candle lit votives or candlesticks adds warmth to the place setting and can be another opportunity to add a festive aroma. Bring in some color with linen napkins and unique napkin rings. Our Still Life ornaments make great conversation pieces and could even be a nice take-home gift for your guests! Each ornament is made with real hand harvested leaves that are preserved in 24 karat gold, sterling silver, or copper. Each of these leaves takes approximately 7 hours to create due to the intricate process of exposing the leaf’s vein structure to create the filigree effect!

After dinner is finished your guests will be ready to sit back and relax in the living room. Providing enough comfortable seating for your guests is important. Placing furniture in a way that allows easy conversation flow with everyone in the group will benefit the atmosphere of the evening. Depending on the plan; whether it’s a game of charades, or just conversation and drinks, it is important to provide plenty of room for the kids to act out scenes from Kung-Fu Panda, or to provide a surface for guests to sit their drinks. Add extra seating with two small cube ottomans like these from Younger furniture, they pair well in front of a warm fireplace!

You can also introduce these small portable drink tables into your space for your guests to use throughout the night. All of these pieces and more are available at the Silver Fox Gallery, a furniture store offering Interior Design in Hendersonville.

Don’t forget the lighting! Placing your fixtures and recessed cans on wall dimmers is a great way to control the atmosphere in each room. Crank up the dimmer for heavy task events like board games at the dinner table or charades in the living room. Dim down the lighting to create an intimate mood for group conversations or watching a holiday movie with the family.
